Belgium Waffles… and other Adventures!

My very first solo (without adult supervision) travel experience! A girl from school and I decided to book a flight to Brussels. We booked it – for the next day. We decided we would find a place to stay when we got there. The bus dropped us off…. we think… in Brussels. But we couldn’t be sure. We found an english information center and I found a map to look at until the lady yelled at us for lingering… or looking at the map for free… I’m not sure.

Either way we saw the metro stop for some hostels and decided to go see what we could book. We get off the metro stop and almost immediately a man approaches us “are you looking for the youth hostel?” uhh – do we look that lost? “Oui”

The youth hostel was fully booked. There was a group of three people listening nearby “Parlez-vous Englais?” They were on a 45 day travel stint through Europe and invited us to explore the city with them. We walked around all day talking about traveling and school. Til the end of the night they doubled up in one bunk and we doubled up in one so at least we had a place to sleep that night!

The next day we walked around the city again going on whatever free tours we could find. We kept running into this one older couple and then found out they are from Easton, PA! The more you travel, the smaller the world becomes!

Let me just take a moment to talk about the waffles and ice cream. I’m not sure what the sugary glaze was that was on the waffles but it was so good! We must have stopped to get them on every corner with gelato ontop! SOOOOO GOOOD! The truffles, almond pastries. So amazing!
