Copan Ruinas was a very, very small town. There was not a lot to do here and the typical roaming wasn’t particularly fruitful.
If you’re just looking for the highlights:
- Copan Ruins
- Sunflower Fields
- Lunar Jaguar Hot Springs
- 1-2 days max here
I had a small bit of work to get done in the morning so I found the perfect coffee shop vibe for some internet and an amazing cup of coffee. I even got some flan for breakfast (There’s milk in it, it’s a breakfast food *wink*)

I grabbed a tuk-tuk to go see the Sunflower Fields. It was one of the few things I had read about in this area to go see. It was about a ten minute drive from downtown. It wasn’t particularly large, maybe an acre of sunflowers. Mostly lots of people coming, like me, to take photos and frollick amongst the flowers. There was a restaurant and some shops for souvenirs. Picnic tables, rockers, and hammocks to relax.

I skipped the Ruins because I’m not big on ruins and museums, but I did go to the Luna Jaguar Hot springs. There wasn’t much online or around to levelset our expectations, so it was for sure a gamble what we were getting ourselves into. This was absolutely 100% worth the nightmare drive to get there. It was 2 hours each way on insanely bumpy dirt roads that our van almost didn’t make it through!
When we first showed up to the place the first two pools looked… like what you might expect – not filled with water, a little dingy. But then they walked us down the path for the 10+ pools and saunas that existed throughout the property. They were all completely natural springs. The water comes out of the mountain at 90 degrees Celsius! And they direct it to all the different pools and waterfalls. It ranged from a cold plunge to 45 degrees. You were sitting inside the rain-forest-esque environment, in nature, soaking in the pools. It was excactualy the experience I was looking for! They served dinner there and it was quite good as well. Highly recommend making the trip to do this if you have time in Copan!
