Like anything that exists in nature, everything becomes very weather dependent. Luckily, I had fantastic weather and we were able to dive Floreana.
I was so excited to go diving! I went the day before to try on the wetsuit. The dive required a thick full arms/legs wetsuit. This made me nervous, because I find it so restricting and hard to breathe! I was also nervous about getting sea sick again – it seems that I am someone who gets sea sick now. Overall – the ‘scared of water’ situation is all still there… but regardless, I was excited to dive.
I do look forward to the day that I can dive without a wet suit. So far, I never have.
The first dive felt ok but I was claustrophobic. The wet suit, being under water – always freaks me out. I felt like I was crushing through air, but then I saw two others in the group get put on the leash haha Apparently my tank control is still pretty excellent! Everyone else in the group was under 700 and I was still over 1000! So even though I felt panicky, apparently I was doing just fine. [There’s a life lesson in there somewhere ha]
I don’t feel like I saw anything individually or specifically cooler than other dives I’ve been on. But what I did se was quantitatively SO MUCH MORe than anywhere I’ve dived before. I haven’t swam with such huge schools of fish before. Thousands of fish all around me in every direction. It was so cool! There was always something around you and it was so crazy!
There were seals that would play in the water with you. One came so close I thought for sure I would be able to touch it, couldn’t have been more than 10 feet away. It was absolutely extraordinary.
