Landing back in Europe is aways bitter sweet. I couldn’t have been more excited for a few days in Madrid, but it also meant the end of my trip.
After a snafu with my original hotel, I used points to book a suite at Element. And let me just say that THIS is the place to stay especially for NYE in Madrid. I’m a Marriott girl anyways but The EDITION was absolute perfection! The room was exactly what I needed for relaxing and finalizing all my New Years Resolution work. (Yes I brought all that madness along on this entire trip).
Beyond the hotel room being perfection, the hotel itself is everything you want. The lobby bar was exquisite, the staff went above and beyond, there were multiple restaurants with New Years Eve celebrations AND a night club. But this was definitely a slightly more mature and elegant vibe. It was perfect. I would come back here.
It was also just a block away from Puerto del Sol which is the ‘Times Square’ of NYE for Madrid – some might offer Europe. Countdown, lights, fireworks, absolutely packed crowds. And the best part – there were guards that didn’t let people down the ally where the hotel was – unless you’re staying there 😉 It was epic.
The hotel also came by and personally gave everyone a little box with 12 grapes with the history behind why we eat the grapes at midnight on New Year’s Eve. This was something I learned a few years ago from – among all things – Modern Family! Gloria was searching for the grapes for NYE. And if it worked for her – it’s going to work for us!
I’ll be honest, I didn’t do any other roaming around Madrid other than for NYE and for as much Paella and Croquetas de Jamon….and Sangria… and Cava!! Heaven!!
