Of the three Baltic states I visited, Riga was my favorite. Even on the overcast days the city was bright and beautiful. The Old Town was a picture of perfection. I went to the top of St. Peter’s Church for an epic view of the city. There was also a statue identical to the one I saw in Bremen, Germany at the base of the Cathederal which was a delightful surprise!
The old missile hangars were turned into the local market. Every city had a story of when the Soviets took over and the Soviet block housing that still exists on the edges of town. The KGB houses that have mostly been turned into museums.
More winding streets and colorful rowhomes. Even though each of the three Baltic States looked and felt the same to me, this was still my favorite. Check out my to-do list below:
- Old Town
- Riga Central
- Market
- St. Peter’s Church
- Black Magic Apothecary Bar
- Alberta Tela
- Vermanes Garden
